FAQ
A- Unfortunately we do not offer make up lessons however a family member or a friend can take your place. We ask that you let us know if you are not able to attend.
A- A few things could revolve in this situation, firstly it is our job to find another in-house mentor to take the lesson. If that is not possible we will let you know by SMS ASAP that the lesson has been cancelled. Our admin will then credit you the lesson on the next invoice.
A- No, all lessons are automatically re-booked for you at the completion of each invoiced term.
A- If you have decided that you no longer want to continue learning then contact you learning centers admin.
A- We have students who have been under our teaching umbrella for 10 years. These students have become incredible players. Others have only been onboard for a short amount of time (like 6 months) so it's up to you and how much you want to be a better player.
A- Our experience is, that not unless you have been playing for a number of years one lesson is enough. We suggest to put some extra time into practice.
A- Yes you can but once again keep in mind the extra work that is needed to get the most out of your lessons. It can take a long time to become efficient on an instrument and we believe focus and energy on 1 instrument is a better learning result.
A- Most experts would say no and we agree that it's 95% sweat and 5% talent. Your talent will rise to the top after you have done all the hard work.
A- Every player and artist will go through a rough time, that's all a part of the development as a player. Try a few different things such as learning a song that you really love, write your own song, play with others, play around with another instrument, try a different style of music, perform, record. The list goes on. It's always a matter of time and the creative juices will flow once more.
A- It's a great choice to be involved in the music industry full time. It will depend on what direction you wish to be involved in. Some directions in the industry offer tricky challenges to other parts. If you would like some advice on this tricky question send us an email requesting some information and we will help you as much as we can.
A- Our experience over the years is that learning with another person in the studio with you is to your disadvantage. What happens is the pace of the class is only going as quick as the slowest learner and the focus of the class is spent on the slowest learner. That is why it is in your best interest to learn in a 1 on 1 basis and have the lesson built around you. Group classes for early childhood development work just fine but for age 7 and up we recommend private lessons.
A- Yes you can and we welcome you to do so. It's piece of mind knowing who your child is spending time with. After several weeks you may want to try sitting in on part of the lesson until finally the mentor and student have built a good working relationship without you. Often at this stage the stage the student is more relaxed to learn.
A- Adults and young adults have alot more on their minds then those in their early teens thus mostly younger people learn quicker where as when you get older it becomes a little slower. It has also been proven that as you get older if you continue to learn new things your brain and body stay more alert and thus this offers a healthy lifestyle. 40% of our students are aged from 16 years and up and most times adult bookings are made when the younger students have already been and gone, so enhance your life and lifestyle by learning music. After all, it's forever.
A- Yes you can book in for one lesson to find out if you are comfortable with your mentor, however our experience is that it often takes 3 or 4 lessons to start to feel relaxed with your mentor and 1 lesson is not really a fair indication for either you or your mentor.
A- Fortnightly lessons are less effective than weekly lessons. We will only book fortnightly lessons at the beginning or end of the mentors time table. You may also be subject to being changed as regular weekly positions dominate our booking schedule. Not unless weekly lessons are out of the question we do not encourage fortnightly lessons.
A- Without you being able to practice before your next lesson it makes it difficult to advance. However keep in mind that if you quit lessons and release and pressure you may have had on yourself the chances are high that you will stop playing all together. At worst even if you don't practice your weekly lesson will keep you involved until you can create the time to practice. Always consider that there is always time to practice, it's really up to you to make the time.
A- Yes, it all does cost money and I guess the question is: What is the cost if you don't find out? Many parents threaten their kids with "You better stick with this or else" or "Don't drop out of this like you did with horse riding" etc. Please choose your words carefully. The above statements are truly setting them up to fail. Try something like this instead e.g. "I would like you to try this for 6 months and after that we will look at upgrading your instrument." This does not plant the seed of failure but instead offers more support and encouragement. They will get more out of this lesson than just learning there favorite instrument.
A- If they are not enjoying music or lessons then yes please pull them out because the last thing we want to do is distort their love for music as lessons might be wrong timing for them. However if they are enjoying lessons and music but not doing much practice then be patient until they understand practice. Practice is a form of human discipline and it takes time to develop so be careful not to fracture the discipline development.
A- Music Lesson Centre offers an E-book on learning styles and an online Questionnaire to help you understand that everyone has a different way of learning new information. This needs to be considered in all area's of our lives. If you would like a consultation on learning styles contact our admin and we will put "Educator of Learning Styles" Jeffery Thorpe in contact with you.
A- No you cannot. There are laws that forbid us from doing so as well as fines for you as well as us. Invest in a quality book that has paid professionals to transcribe the music for you to learn. When you buy a book mistakes in the music are very few if any. A $50 book will last you a lifetime a download or photocopy will not.
A- Yes, that will always be our goal because we know that by playing the songs that you love you will end up being a better player. Keep in mind that there will always be information that you will always need to cover to reach that goal. Similar to a sports person they will need to do certain exercises before they take to the field to do what they love doing.
